RESEARCH GRANTS FOR BYZANTINE STUDIES

Koç University Center for Late Antique and Byzantine Studies Center (GABAM) offers a limited number of grants to support scholars in projects about Archaeology and History of Art of the Byzantine civilization. Research grants of up to 20,000 euros are available. The amount awarded will be determined by GABAM according to the proposed project. The project for which funding is requested can be part of a wider research program but must be defined as a separate entity.

Criteria:

Projects will be selected by the GABAM selection committee based on the following criteria:

  • the applicant’s qualifications and previous record
  • the significance of the project as an original contribution to the field
  • Preference will be given to projects which are approaching completion and publication stage.

Terms:

  • The grant period is for one year and begins after the project is accepted by GABAM.
  • Applicants must hold a PhD and be affiliated with an academic institution.
  • Research is expected to be published in a peer reviewed international periodical or book, with a copy submitted to GABAM.
  • The author must acknowledge the support of GABAM in any publication resulting from the grant and submit a copy to GABAM.
  • A final report must be submitted to GABAM within three months of the end of the grant period.
  • Funds are given in two installments: 75% at the start of the award period and the remainder at completion of the project as a reimbursement (upon submission of receipts and final report).
  • Only documented expenses will be reimbursed.

Applications are made through the GABAM online application system and must be submitted in English no later than April 1, 2018.

PhD GRANTS

 

Koç University Center for Late Antique and Byzantine Studies Center (GABAM)  offers a limited number of grants to support PhD candidates in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies. Grants of up to 5,000 euros are available, depending on the proposed project, and must be used for ongoing PhD research.

 

Criteria:

Projects will be selected by the GABAM selection committee based on the following criteria:

  • the applicant’s qualifications
  • the significance of the project and its contribution to the completion of the dissertation
  • the stage of the PhD research.

Terms:

  • The grant period is for one year and begins after the project is accepted by GABAM.
  • Applicants should be enrolled in a PhD program at a Turkish University.
  • Projects should be a part of the applicant’s PhD research.
  • The dissertation must have progressed enough to show it can be completed.
  • A report must be submitted to GABAM within three months of the end of the grant period.
  • Funds are given in two instalments: 75% at the start of the award period and the remainder at completion of the project as a reimbursement (upon submission of receipts and report).
  • Only documented expenses will be reimbursed.
  • The author must acknowledge the support of GABAM in their dissertation and any publication resulting from the grant and submit a copy of the dissertation to GABAM.
